IRobot took one more step toward its overarching vision to become a leading “connected home” company when it became a customer of Amazon Inc.’s cloud computing division this past quarter.
Amazon Web Services (Nasdaq: AMZN) offers cloud computing services and provides easy access to servers, storage and databases, which allows companies to grow even faster without spending on servers.
Bedford-based iRobot (Nasdaq: IRBT) now joins the top names in tech as a customer of AWS, ranging from Airbnb to Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) and Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA).
In an interview following iRobot’s latest earnings report for the quarter ending July 2, CEO Colin Angle said the company made a “significant” investment in becoming a customer of Amazon Web Services to give iRobot the scalability and cloud-computing sophistication to set itself apart from competitors and position it to become a connected home company.
There are now endless opportunities for what AWS could help iRobot do with its products, including the Roomba 980 and Braava jet, in the cloud.
